Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) Infineon Technologies AG, a German-based semiconductor supplier, on Wednesday opened an office in Kaohsiung in a bid to reinforce its ties with Taiwan's IC supply chain. In a statement, Infineon said the operations of its Kaohsiung office will focus on establishing a partnership with Taiwan's IC assembly and testing services suppliers by outsourcing business to them, and through such close ties, boost innovation, production efficiency and pursue higher product quality.
Taipei, Dec. 21 (CNA) Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) returned to Taiwan on Saturday following a trip to Germany and the Czech Republic to promote industrial cooperation, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). In a statement, the International Trade Administration (ITA) under the MOEA said Kuo attended the inauguration of the Taiwan Trade and Investment Center in Prague on Thursday.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) has arrived in Belgium for high-level talks with senior European Union officials, reports said Wednesday. Kuo met with European Commission Director-General for Trade Sabine Weyand and with Deputy Director-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Maive Rute, per CNA. He hopes to boost cooperation in the fields of robots and AI.
〔Taiwan News〕Taiwan Central Bank leaves interest rates unchanged
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Central Bank on Thursday left interest rates unchanged for the third time running, while issuing no new measures against housing speculation. After its final board meeting for the year, the bank also predicted inflation would fall below 2% in 2025. The benchmark discount rate stayed at the 16-year high of 2%, Radio Taiwan International reported. The secured loan rate remained at 2.375%, and the unsecured loan rate at 4.25%.
Author Yang Shuang-zi has thanked her home country for giving her the inspiration for her historical fiction novel "Taiwan Travelogue," which last month won the prestigious U.S. National Book Award. On Tuesday, Yang was also presented with a National Cultural Award in Taipei.
